Create a Leather-Textured, Realistic Briefcase Icon
This is definitely one of my favorite tutorials. I created it for Psdtuts+, the Photoshop instructional powerhouse we all love.
I’m really happy with the outcome. It surely surpassed my expectations when I set out to design a leather object. Despite having realistic details, the briefcase still looks fun and “icony.” I like that! In fact I like it so much I decided to turn it into a proper OS icon.
Download the icon for Mac and Windows. I use it for my “Work” folder.
Don’t forget to read the full tutorial. It’s quite a fetching read, I promise!

Andrea,
I really like your tutorials which are very informative. I learned a lot about Photoshop
from them.
One suggestion regarding the stitching step for the leather briefcase:
Go to Shape Dynamics in the Brush Presets- under Angle Jitter select the
“Direction” option and your stitch brush will follow your path and turn
automatically around the whole path.
You might have to tweak the Path corner points a little to get the corner stitches to
fit. Try it.
Thanks, somehow I forgot to use that setting while creating the briefcase. Thanks for reminding me.
Lovely is an understatement :-)
