Ebook Cover for Smashing Magazine
I designed the cover of Smashing Magazine’s “Professional Web Design” ebook.
Vitaly Friedman from Smashing Magazine asked me to design a cover illustration for their latest ebook, named “Professional Web Design”.
Besides saying that the illustration had to look really cool, Vitaly gave me carte blanche as to what I should design. After much experimentation this is what I came up with:
I love infographics and I thought it would be great to create a cross between a data representation, a landscape and typography. It seemed like the perfect recipe for an illustration that could be abstract but not entirely devoid of recognizable objects.
I also wanted to have a textured background that included current trends like color bands and diagonal stripes, without being too busy.
On that I superimposed a simple, infographic-like landscape comprised of a mountain range at the horizon and a river that meanders towards the viewer. The entire landscape is accented by keywords relevant to the ebook’s content (web design and freelancing, mostly).

The team at Smashing Magazine loved the illustration and I’m happy about it too. I especially love the colors and the interplay between the background and the landscape.
