The Legacy Of Polish Poster Design

I wrote an extensive article about Polish poster design for Smashing Magazine.

Marek Mosinski - Testament Gangstera

My article about Polish posters entitled “The Legacy of Polish Poster Design” just came out on Smashing Magazine.
I’m very proud of it because it’s a chance to expose a particularly outstanding achievement of Polish culture to a large number of people. Poland has been my home for 4 years now and I’m happy to finally give something back. Dziękuję, Polsko!

By the way, the wonderful poster you see above hangs proudly over the piano in my room. It was presented to me last year and it gave me the idea to write the article.

Head over to SM to read the full article, comment and share!

    Dziękuję Andrea ;-)

It’s really nice to see that a foreigner is writing about polish posters on SM. And thanks for some history flashbacks which probably weren’t known for lot of people over the world.

    Great job!

A włoskiego artysty jestem bardzo ciekawa :D

Great article and great choice of posters.
Love to see so many incredible designs all of them completely new to me.
And so many for Italian films too.
    Will follow you on twitter!
Thank you. You made my day today.

    Buongiorno,
Great article, which gave me an idea for my future PhD thesis in Design History. Seriously. But I guess I still need to narrow down my study area, any suggestions?

Beside, I don’t speak Polish, and is almost impossible for me to learn this language, do you think it will be a problem to carry out a research relates to this country?

    Thanks.
P.S Love your previous post about your name!! It just made me laugh!!

    • Andrea says:

      Keira,
you should refer to some of the websites I listed in the links at the end of the article. There are some knowledgeable people who speak English there.
Polish can be tough so you probably should concentrate on a more accessible subject, but don’t give up just yet.

Some weird things happen because of my name and because of my hair. Oh boy!

    • Ania says:

Keira, I’m studying at the academy of art in Poland (wrocław) so if you need any help with your thesis, let me know! I’d be glad to help :)

      • Keira says:

First of all, many thanks to both of you for your kindly reply.

I haven’t came up a concrete outline for my thesis yet, but I might focus on the Polish poster design from WWII through the fall of Communism. I learned that there’s a film called Freedom on the Fence which also deals with this subject, and with those useful links Andrea provided in The Legacy of Polish Poster Design, I’m positive I’ll find my research orientation in no time!!

I haven’t been to Poland actually, maybe I should start planning a trip this summer to acquaint myself with this beautiful place!! (well ..before I start my M.A. study in England on September. I’m a student in Visual Communication, by the way).

        To Ania,
I don’t know how can I reach you, I leave my email here so you can drop me a message anytime you want. And thanks again for your offer of help!!

    Hi Andrea!
I’m a Brazilian designer that enjoyed so much your article. I had the opportunity to design an exhibition of Polish posters in 2000 here in Brazil and then i fell in love with it.
I translated your article (with credits) and posted in my blog, ok?
    Thanks for that!

  • Filipe says:

I’d already done it but I sent them an e-mail and used all credits I could!
    Thanks, Andrea!
