How To Be A Samurai Designer

I’m very happy to announce that Smashing Magazine has published an article of mine, “How To Be A Samurai Designer.”

samurai

Drawing inspiration from the book Hagakure, by Tsunetomo Yamamoto, I put together a few guidelines to help us designers be a true samurai in our profession.

The way we approach design problems, our decision-making process and the plans we have for our career can all be enhanced with a healthy dose of samurai ethics, in my opinion.
Years ago, when I discovered Hagakure, I was blown away by how effective its teachings were. Overnight I was cured of many of my guiltiest sins: undecisiveness, procrastination, lack of focus. Ever since, the ethics of the samurai, properly updated and adapted to contemporary life, have helped me become a better person, hence a better designer.

Give the article a read, it might help you too.
